Packing and Travel Tips

  • Soft side or duffel bags are best for packing in safari vehicles.
  • Comfortable, casual, muted colors. Avoid black, navy, and bright red. (Black and blue attracts tsetse flies. Red means danger to animals.)
  • Lightweight breathable pants, longer shorts, or capri pants.
  • Short sleeved shirts.
  • Rain jacket.
  • Bathing suit for lodging pools.
  • Tennis shoes or sturdy sandals. They will get dirty. Shoes that slip off easily are nice for safari vehicles.
  • Dress in layers to adjust to temperature changes.
  • Clothing for dinner at lodges is comfortable casual. You may want some nicer shirts/ tops for evening. Pants, skorts, capris are all appropriate.
  • A light sweater for cooler evenings.
  • Pack light and leave room for souvenirs. Laundry is available at most lodges for a small price. Overnight service is available.
  • Always carry passport, airline tickets, and money on your person.
  • In villages, dress should be modest and conservative.
  • Wide brimmed hat for game drives.
  • Leave valuable jewelry at home.

Travel Tips

  • Electrical converter
  • Passport/visa/vaccination certificate
  • Photocopies of passport, air itinerary, and prescriptions
  • Extra batteries or battery charger
  • Day pack to have with you in the safari vehicle
  • Basic schools supplies for Bashay or some funds to purchase supplies at a local store.
    (Some people may want to ask family and friends to contribute to the project. Textbooks can be purchased in Arusha and other school supplies in Karatu.)

Tipping
The traditional gratuity to safari guides and camp staff are not included in the price of your tour. However, they are entirely discretionary. We recommend tipping moderately, according to the level and quality of service provided. Tips are given at the end of a successful safari.

Suggested tipping:

  • Driver/guides is US $15-25 per person per day
  • Hotel staff, housekeeping, etc. $1-$2 per guest per day
  • Porters $1 per bag.

Many lodges have a tip box at the reception box. Tips are shared between the lodge staff. Your guide can suggest tip amounts.

Release of Liability

Payment for a Viewpoint Adventures, hereinafter referred to as VPA tour implies consent of the following VPA terms and conditions and further holds VPA harmless of all non-negligent acts. In kind, VPA agrees to adhere to the details of the clients’ contract to the best of their abilities and in alliance with the terms and conditions as set out below.

1.) PAYMENT

Payment shall be made in accordance to the terms of the contract. By making payment for your VPA tour you agree to the terms of the contract and the terms and conditions of this release of liability. Prices from vendors or park fees may change (up or down) without warning and out of the control of VPA. If such an occurrance takes place, your itinerary prices will be adjusted accordingly.

Park fees are established by the Tanzanian government. Fees may change, without notice, at the discretion of the Tanzanian government. VPA will not be held responsible for any changes made by the government regarding price changes to your itinerary. VPA will adjust your  itinerary charges accordingly.

Hotel reservations, prices and availability cannot be guaranteed by VPA. Private vendors are not in VPA control. Every effort will be made to give clients their requested accommodations, but in the event of unavailability or price changes, VPA will endeavor to establish similar lodging and accommodations at our discretion (if a time constraint exists or will exist). VPA will make every effort to consult clients when possible.

2.) PERSONAL EXPENSES

VPA will not be responsible for clients obtaining passports, visas, travel insurance, telephone service, laundry service, non itinerary entertainment expenses, beverages not previously specified or any other items of a personal nature. VPA will be happy to assist the client in obtaining personal items (within reason), if and when possible.

3.) ITINERARY CHANGES

VPA will make every effort, within reason, to accommodate clients’ requests for itinerary changes. Clients will be responsible for any price increases, fees or rate changes associated with the changes requested. It is accepted that VPA cannot guarantee any itinerary changes due to time constraints or logistics based on the remainder of the tour. Prices will be adjusted accordingly.

4.) LODGING FEES

It is understood that lodging is to be booked as far in advance as possible to ensure occupancy and that the fees are non-refundable (per the policies of the individual lodges). Even though VPA chooses its vendors and lodges with extreme care, we have no control over their non-refund policies and VPA cannot legally be held responsible for these policies of our vendors. It is strongly recommended that the client purchase travel insurance in the event of cancellations and non-refundable fees.

5.) UNAVOIDABLE CIRCUMSTANCES

VPA will not be held responsible for unavoidable circumstances including, but not limited to, delays due to technical difficulties, weather or disaster; hotels regarding prices, complaints to the hotel, accommodations, food; airline problems; telephone calls or etc. VPA will make every effort to alleviate problems as they come up and will make every effort to ensure that all details of the planned itinerary be carried out. However, VPA does not have control over the policies of direct suppliers and vendors in the event that they alter their policies. VPA does not accept liability for errors and omissions of said suppliers and vendors.

6.) TRAVEL DOCUMENTS AND NECESSITIES

VPA does not accept responsibility for any consequences whatsoever due to a client failing to comply with necessary passport, visa and health requirements. VPA recommends securing a passport, visa and required vaccinations early in the booking process. VPA is also willing to assist in obtaining any of the needed documents.

7.) TRAVEL INSURANCE

VPA strongly advises clients to purchase travel insurance to protect against cancellations, illness, loss of personal items or any possible defaults. The purchase of said travel insurance should be completed well in advance of your trip in order to benefit the carriers full range of coverage.

8.) DISCLAIMER:

Viewpoint Adventures acts only as an agent for the various vendors and suppliers that provide accommodations, tours, sightseeing, activities or other services connected with our tours. Such services are subject to the terms and conditions of each specific vendor and supplier. Viewpoint Adventures and their respective employees, agents and representatives accept no liability whatsoever for any injury, damage, loss, accident, delay or any other incident that may occur due to negligence, defect or default of any company or person that provides services except said VPA personnel. Responsibility is not accepted for losses, injury, damages or expenses of any kind due to sickness, weather, hostilities, acts of nature, local laws or other such causes. All services and accommodations are subject to the laws and regulations of the country in which they are provided. Viewpoint Adventures is not responsible for baggage or personal effects of any individual on tour arranged by Viewpoint Adventures. Individuals are responsible for purchasing a travel insurance policy, if desired,that will cover incidents of loss as covered in your specific policy. Due diligence of each individual is expected in all situations on a Viewpoint Adventures Tanzanian Safari Tour.

I HAVE READ THIS RELEASE AND UNDERSTAND ITS CONTENT. I FURTHER UNDERSTAND THAT BY PAYING FOR SOME OR ALL OF THE TRIP THAT THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF THIS RELEASE AND THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF THE VIEWPOINT ADVENTURES CONTRACT ARE ACCEPTED.
