Medical Tips

  • Fill personal prescriptions, if needed.
  • See your health professional for advice for recommended vaccinations. Make sure to get these vaccinations well ahead of the trip. See:  for more information on recommendations.
  • Purchase trip insurance from an independent trip insurance agency; be sure to get trip cancellation and medical evacuation coverage.
  • Some clinics prescribe malaria prophylactic pills. However, you will have less risk of side effects if you simply wear long sleeve shirts and pants at dusk and use an insect repellent containing DEET.

  • Other medications you may want to take include: anti-diarrheal, pain medication, immodium, throat lozenges, antibiotic cream, insect repellent, sleep aid (to help with jet lag), and laxatives.

  • Drink only bottled water. Brush your teeth with bottled water also. Bottled water is provided in all lodging rooms and in the safari vehicles.
